How to Prepare for Your Maternity Photoshoot in Bristol
Preparing for your maternity photo shoot is an exciting part of the process, ensuring you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful on the day. Here’s a guide on how to prepare for your maternity session with a professional Bristol maternity photographer.
1. Schedule Your Session in Plenty of Time
The ideal time for a maternity photoshoot is between 30 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, your bump will be beautifully defined, and you’ll still feel comfortable enough for the session.
2. Choose the Perfect Outfit
Selecting the right wardrobe is key to showcasing your bump in the best way. We recommend flowy dresses or form-fitting outfits that highlight your shape. Solid colours like white, cream, or soft pastels are perfect for maternity photoshoots in Bristol, as they photograph beautifully. You can bring multiple outfits for variety, or choose from the selection of stunning maternity dresses, bodysuits, and gowns available at our studio. If you're unsure, we’ll guide you through the process to help you pick the right look.
3. Pamper Yourself Before the Session
Leading up to your maternity photoshoot, take some time to pamper yourself. Consider having your hair and makeup done professionally to feel extra special, or opt for a more natural look if you prefer. A glowing, natural makeup style and soft waves or sleek hair will enhance your radiance.
4. Bring Meaningful Props
Incorporating sentimental items into your maternity session can make it even more memorable. Whether it’s a special baby blanket, your wedding veil, tiny shoes, or a family heirloom, personal touches can make your maternity photos more meaningful and unique.
5. Include Your Loved Ones
A maternity session is a perfect opportunity to include your partner, older children, or even pets in some of the photos. This allows you to capture those special family moments as you eagerly await your new arrival.
6. Relax and Trust the Process
Finally, trust that we’re here to make your maternity photoshoot experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. Our goal is to make sure you feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable. You don’t need to worry about posing or how you look—we’ll guide you through every step of the process to ensure you have a fantastic experience.
By following these simple steps, you can prepare for a maternity photoshoot that will leave you with stunning memories of this special time in your life. Ready to book your maternity session in Bristol? Get in touch today!
Maternity Photography FAQ
When should I schedule maternity photo shoot?
As a general rule of thumb, I like to schedule your maternity session shortly after your 20 week scan! This will give us plenty of time to find a great day that works well for both of us. Maternity photos are typically taken when you're showing - generally around 30-36 weeks into your pregnancy.
How many outfits should I bring to my maternity photo shoot?
The number of outfits will depend on the session package you have booked, this will vary from 1-5 outfits. Mini sessions have 1 outfit only. This can be something you bring, or something from the studio wardrobe.
What should I consider when planning maternity outfits?
My biggest piece of advice is to wear something you feel both comfortable and beautiful in. My second piece of advice is for you to choose a non black or white top that is form-fitting enough to showcase your baby bump. Bring nude underwear with you and a strapless bra if you have them.
Can my partner or child or pet be in the maternity photographs, too?
Of course! I love incorporating mum, dad and your other children into our session photos and any fury friends too. While in most cases you and dad will be the stars of the day, I believe it's so important to have several photographs with the entire family.
Do you offer hair and makeup for the maternity sessions?
I have two wonderful makeup artists that I recommend to my clients. They live close to my studio and are quite flexible with appointments if you give them enough notice, they will happily create a soft and glowing look for your session. They are mainly available on week days due to being wedding makeup artists too they are normally busy on weekends. Hair and makeup would be about a £100 cost.
Do I have to get professional makeup done for my maternity session?
Not at all! Most of my clients choose to do their own makeup and look fabulous in their photos! I have software that can add makeup and make your hair look lovely, so I wouldn't worry about it too much!
